Japan Tourist Visa from Pakistan: Documents and Itinerary Planning

Cherry blossoms, bullet trains, Tokyo's neon streets and Kyoto's temples — Japan is a dream trip for many. For Pakistani passport holders it requires a visa, and Japan is known for asking for a detailed schedule of your stay. Getting the itinerary right is half the work.

Where to apply

Applications from Pakistan are handled through the Embassy of Japan in Islamabad and the Consulate-General in Karachi, or through the channels they designate. Check their official website for the latest submission process and document list before you start.

Core documents

  • Passport valid for your whole stay, with blank pages
  • Visa application form and a recent photograph
  • Flight reservation
  • Hotel bookings
  • Schedule of stay — a day-by-day plan in the embassy's format
  • Bank statement or bank certificate showing enough funds
  • Proof of employment, business or studies

How to write the schedule of stay

Japan's schedule of stay is a simple table: date, activities, and where you will stay each night. Keep it realistic:

Day Plan Stay
Day 1 Arrive Tokyo, check in Tokyo hotel
Day 2 Asakusa, Shibuya, Tokyo Tower Tokyo hotel
Day 3 Day trip to Mount Fuji area Tokyo hotel
Day 4 Bullet train to Kyoto Kyoto hotel

Tip: Make sure every night in the schedule matches a hotel booking, and the first and last days match your flights.

If someone in Japan invites you

If you are visiting a friend or relative, or someone in Japan is guaranteeing your trip, additional documents are usually needed from them, such as an invitation letter and a letter of guarantee. Ask them to check the requirements early, as they may need time to prepare.

Best times to visit

  • Late March – early April: cherry blossom season (book early)
  • October – November: autumn colours and comfortable weather
  • Avoid if you can: the rainy season in June, and mid-summer heat

Travel tips

  • A rail pass can save money if you are travelling between cities
  • Carry some cash — smaller shops and restaurants may not take cards
  • Pack light: hotel rooms in Japan are often compact
