The UK Standard Visitor visa covers tourism, visiting family and friends, and short business trips. It is applied for online, and you then give your fingerprints and photo at a visa application centre in Pakistan. A good application answers three questions clearly: why are you going, who is paying, and why will you come back?
How the process works
- Fill in the online application on the official UK government website and pay the fee.
- Book a biometrics appointment at the visa application centre.
- Upload or submit your supporting documents.
- Attend the appointment and wait for the decision.
You can apply up to three months before your travel date. Peak summer months are busy, so give yourself enough time.
Core documents
- Current passport and any old passports showing travel history
- Proof of employment or business (employment letter, salary slips, business registration, tax returns)
- Personal bank statements for the last six months
- Proof of ties to Pakistan — property, family, ongoing studies or a job you are returning to
- Accommodation details and a simple travel plan
When someone in the UK is sponsoring you
Many Pakistani visitors are invited by children or relatives living in the UK. In that case, the sponsor should provide:
- An invitation letter explaining your relationship, the dates of your visit, where you will stay and what they will pay for
- A copy of their passport or UK residence status
- Their recent bank statements and payslips, showing they can support your visit
- Proof of address, such as a council tax bill or tenancy agreement
Tip: Even with a sponsor, show some funds and ties of your own. An application that depends entirely on the sponsor can raise doubts about whether you will return.
Explain the payment clearly
If your son is paying for flights and you are covering your own expenses, say exactly that — and make sure the bank statements support it. Vague phrases like "my family will take care of everything" leave the officer guessing.
Mistakes that lead to refusals
- Not declaring previous visa refusals for any country
- Bank balances that suddenly increase before applying
- Travel dates that don't match leave approved by your employer
- A visit length that seems too long for your job or business to allow
